GREENIVERSITY Project Launch: Pioneering Sustainability in Higher Education
The GREENIVERSITY project is officially underway, setting the stage for a transformative approach to integrating green competences into higher education. Funded under the Erasmus+ Programme, this ambitious initiative will run from September 2024 to August 2027 and aims to bridge critical gaps in sustainability knowledge and teaching practices across Europe.
Building a Greener Future Together
GREENIVERSITY seeks to embed the European Framework of Green Competences (GreenComp) into the core of higher education. By fostering sustainability-oriented thinking among educators and students, the project will enhance skills, strengthen curricula, and empower institutions to become champions of sustainable development.
Key Goals and Outputs
The project focuses on three main pillars:
- Developing a scalable framework to integrate and certify sustainability competences in higher education.
- Equipping educators through innovative Training-of-Trainers (ToT) methodologies and digital resources.
- Engaging students via courses and networking opportunities designed to upskill and reskill for a sustainable future.
By the project’s conclusion, GREENIVERSITY will deliver impactful resources, including digital training centers, comprehensive courses, and a long-term sustainability roadmap.
The Kick-Off Meeting
The first transnational meeting, initially planned for November 4–5, 2024, in Valencia, was postponed and moved online due to severe flooding in the region. Despite these unforeseen challenges, the consortium gathered virtually on December 11, 2024, to officially launch the project. Representatives from all seven partners attended the meeting, solidifying their commitment to delivering exceptional results.
International Collaboration
GREENIVERSITY brings together a strong consortium of partners, each contributing unique expertise:
- University of Valencia (Spain): Project lead and sustainability education innovator.
- University of Jyväskylä (Finland): Expert in planetary well-being and interdisciplinary sustainability education.
- University of Burgundy (France): Leader in ecological transition and education innovation.
- Agencia Valenciana de Evaluación y Prospectiva (Spain): Specialists in quality assurance and sustainability metrics.
- F6S Network Ireland (Ireland): Experts in project dissemination and community engagement.
- Lucian Blaga University of Sibiu (Romania): Prominent advocates for environmental and social responsibility.
- Irmandade da Santa Casa da Misericórdia da Amadora (Portugal): Pioneers in social-driven sustainability.
Looking Ahead
The consortium is excited to embark on this journey to redefine higher education’s role in promoting sustainability. Through collaboration, innovation, and a shared vision, GREENIVERSITY aims to create lasting change that benefits both the academic community and society at large.
